Stunning place. Massive wooded area, streams, rivers, playpark, walled garden. Loads of wee books and crannies to sit and eat, climb, explore and walk. It has a cafe and toilets too. Absolutely worth a visit especially to let kids explore. Dogs allowed but must be on lead in certain areas.
I've been visiting here since I was a little girl, amazing memories. Now I get to create new ones with my two year old. He just loves it here. We also made a goat friend, ha.
We loved it here. The garden was beautiful with stunning views. In the woodlands there is multiple play areas for children. One of them being a bus with a cool slide that us adults can fit on too. Hoping we can come here again.
Me and kids discovered this park one Sunday afternoon and we're amuzed how many activities is there for kids and family and dog. Lots of play areas with pirate ship, fort with little jail, swings. We enjoyed woodland walks stopping at wishing tree, paths with waterfalls. There are also picknick and bbq areas and tearoom with great selection. Just opposite to the fort there was an owl exhibition and my daughter loved to pet them. We also found little fairies on the way back to car park. We definitely come back to explore more as we didn't have much time to do so.
Really good entry price £6 for adults £4 for kids/concession. The car park is really small but it's free. In the visitors centre is the dolly mixture. This is the dolls museum and shows a lot of dolls the family collected all over the world and It's based over 2 levels. The gardens are well looked after and very relaxing to walk about. There is lots of benches so you can sit and enjoy the gardens. The paths are well maintained. The smelly garden as the name suggests is small area where you get to smell plants. The cafe is located as you enter the garden area. There is picnic tables located about the park. The play area is large but there also different play items located at different area in the walking trails. The walking trails are fairly easy to walk about. The toilets are across fro the visitors centre.
We arrived for first time today and enjoyed the grounds. Kids running about. I liked the most the play area where the boys had plenty to do and for myself I love the view over the Clyde river. Next time I will take a blanket and sit on the lovely grass and enjoy the view. There is picnic area where to have a snack but also it is a shop where you can buy something. We had our own lunchbox. We would love to come back. Also the host is very helpful with info and happy to have us.
This park has a lot of potential but was let down on our visit due to the condition of the play park which is borderline dangerous due to rot and lack of maintenance. I have been long term friends with a former groundsman at finlaystone for 20+ years and he is shocked at the state of repair of this small but important part of the estate.
Other than this, the welcome at the ticket office and gift shop was warm and the gentleman there was very knowledgeable. We 1st took a walk through the walled garden then out towards the main house which is quite impressive and must have excellent views. Then through the "smelly garden" which was quite a lovely experience , though smallish. After a nice icecream we took a short walk over the stream that was barely a trickle due to recent weather but I have seen that it can have quite impressive short waterfalls when in spate. Within 2 minutes we reached the rather decrepit playpark and my son had a go on the swings which shook the entire frame holding 5 swings about 4 inches! The small wooden train had seen better days too. The highlight was the wooden pirate ship that was in much better condition.
A little further down is a small open glade suitable for a kickabout or sunbathing with a shelter adjacent, possibly for those pesky showers. It appears ro be a designated bbq area too which is useful for picnics.
Overall a potentially lovely park with woodland trails but lacking modernisation and some basic maintenance.
Beautiful family park which is decently maintained. Adult tickets £6 per head and children £4 per head. The weather makes all the difference though, we were lucky to get a full sunny day and it was too comfortable and peaceful. The map provided is simple and easy to follow. The car park accomodates about 100-150 parking space and there are attendants to guide you as well. The trails are lovely and loads of fun kids activities can be planned. There is a toddler park. Suitable for infants as well under supervision. There is a barbeque area to plan a picnic on a fantastic summer day. Toilets were clean and adjacent to visitor centre. The visitor centre has kids learning areas for fun as well. Cleaniless rules are strict and thankfully people have been disciplined enough to clear up after use. The trails are beautiful with comforting canopies all around. Fantastic experience of forest trails so close to city.
